Today I stayed home to study.. although I was highly contemplating a trip to the Vismarkt.. I need to get a new bike! And I wanted to do some shopping. Seeing as how I will be in the city tomorrow.. today I decided to forgo the opportunity cost of traveling there and stayed home to do some reading. Actually, I am experiencing guilt and having a difficult time in justifying this blog entry.. Every time I look up I see a BIG HUGE DARK EXAM cloud hovering over me. : /
On a lighter note… Sunday night was quite exciting! I saw a REAL GYPSY BAND! No joke.. it was great! Here is the music video of one of their most popular songs:

What made the concert so FREAKIN awesome… !!!! ..was that it was a last minute, spur of the moment, spontaneous kind of thing.. we didn’t know the band, weren’t planning on going out.. we just decided to go! So Matthias and I hopped in the car and headed into town to a small local theatre. It was the bday of a German girl I had met at a party a couple weeks back. So we met up with her and in the meantime met some other interesting people. The music was so eclectic with many Eastern European influences. IT WAS SOOOO COOL. The theatre was small so it was comfortable and we had a GREAT view. The band was very entertaining and really got the crowd involved. I recorded some video but it sounds like crap so I’m not going to upload it : o(
But here is another link … so you can see what I mean by gypsy music, as well as kinda get a feeling for how the concert was. I didn’t take this video but it’s live and similar to what we experienced!

Ok sooo anyway—last night I went to a SIB meeting where I was officially inaugurated!!! WOOHOO!! Even got a nice little official certificate in DUTCH! I like SIB because I’m getting to know some really cool local Dutch people. It seems like every other part of my existence here has been a bit segregated. I often find myself mixed up with other international/exchange students and not meeting any true locals.
MY BIKE- is a piece! Like I said, it was stuck in 3rd gear.. and being a mountain bike alone made traveling difficult. All these Dutch people on their big ass grandma bikes in 1st gear are always zipping past me while I’m out of breath feeling like I’m biking up a steep hill. So other than that, the chain finally fell off and we can’t seem to fix it. –good reason for me to get a new bike!
And uh--- still haven’t uploaded that video of the club we were at ! SORRY! But I need to get back to studying~!!
Auf Wiedersehen!

I am so jealous! I would absolutely LOVE to be there hangin out...listening to gypsy bands...soaking in the European atmosphere...bla, bla, bla...I've already said this, I know.
Love the band. Have you listened to the Gypsy Kings? They're also very good. First time I heard them I was hooked. That was back in the mid to late 80's and I saw them on MTV, but didn't know who they were. Never heard or saw them again until I met German Mike. Recognized the sound immediately and have loved them ever since.
Sorry to hear about your bike. What a drag. I bought a bike this summer as an attempt to share a hobby with Kris, but I have not ridden it once and I spent $500 on that biotch! Aaaarrggghhh. Wish I could just send it to you.
Congrats on being inducted into the SIB club! So I take it you're now an honorary member? Sweet!
Gonna take lots of pics on Halloween to send to ya. Until then take care, study hard, but not too hard, don't worry about anything and have fun!
Love you!
Be responsible by preparing suitably for your exam and you will do well on the test so you can properly reward yourself with some serious partying afterwards.
I have seen some interesting things in my travels but don't ever remember seeing a real gypsy much less a real gypsy band. I am glad that you are having these wonderful experiences.
Now that you were officially inaugurated at the SIB meeting, does that make you a SIBling? Of course Dutch are cool; your grandma Barbara was Dutch!
Sorry about your bike. I suggest that you acquire a little motor scooter or better yet a gently used, small and inexpensive car. You can always sell it later when you return home. You do remember home don't you? That warm and fuzzy place where your heart resides.
Love,
Daddy Gee
By the way, check the brakes and gears too, and make sure they work well!!! :)
